Modification of AGB wind in a binary system

چکیده
We explore one of plausible causes of asymmetry in the wind of an AGB star – the presence of a binary companion. We have developed a simple method for estimating the intrinsic non-sphericity of the outflow in that case. Assuming the Roche model, local stellar parameters (Teff , g) are calculated, and then a formula for the local mass loss rate is applied. As a by-product a relation between the ratio of stellar radius to the Roche lobe radius and the overall wind enhancement is obtained.

Collimated Fast Winds in Wide Binary Progenitors of Planetary Nebulae
We discuss the formation of planetary nebulae (PNe) having a pair of lobes, or multi-lobes, in their inner region surrounded by an elliptical or spherical shell or halo. Both elliptical and bipolar PNe are considered; when the lobes are much smaller than the main elliptical shell, the PN is termed elliptical PN, while when the lobes are the main structure of the nebula, the PN is termed bipolar...

WeBo 1 (PN G135.6+01.0), a previously unrecognized planetary nebula with a remarkable thinring morphology, was discovered serendipitously on Digitized Sky Survey images. The central star is found to be a late-type giant with overabundances of carbon and s-process elements. The giant is chromospherically active and photometrically variable, with a probable period of 4.7 days; this suggests that ...
متن کامل0 the “ Twin Jet ” Planetary Nebula M 2 – 9
We present a model for the structure, temporal behavior, and evolutionary status of the bipolar nebula M2−9. According to this model the system consists of an AGB or post-AGB star and a hot white dwarf companion, with an orbital period of about 120 years. The white dwarf has undergone a symbiotic nova eruption about 1200 years ago, followed by a supersoft x-ray source phase. The positional shif...
متن کاملThe Formation of Very Narrow Waist Bipolar Planetary Nebulae
We discuss the interaction of the slow wind blown by an asymptotic giant branch (AGB) star with a collimated fast wind (CFW) blown by its main sequence or white dwarf companion, at orbital separations in the range of several × AU ∼< a ∼< 200 AU. The CFW results from accretion of the AGB wind into an accretion disk around the companion. The fast wind is collimated by the accretion disk. We argue...
متن کاملThe effect of gravitational focusing by the companion to the mass-losing star
We present hydrodynamical models of planetary nebulae with detached binary cores. The models are obtained according to the interacting winds scenario. Slow AGB wind models are produced by means of 3-D SPH simulations. The SPH results provide initial conditions for the evolution of a fast and rarefied wind injected into the AGB wind. In close binaries the density distribution of the slow wind is...
